WHO?
"Tuve" is a Venezuelan MLB second baseman for the Houston Astros. As of 2019 he is the shortest active MLB player at 5 feet 6 inches (1,68 m), and he is among the 15 shortest MLB players of all-time. Altuve is a six-time All-Star and has won three batting championship.
In 2014 Jose Altuve broke Craig Biggio's franchise single-season hit record of 210 hits. He totaled 225 hits and an .341 AVG (both of which led MLB). He became the first Houston Astros player to win a batting title. He would collect 2 more batting titles in 2016 and 2017.
His 2017 season was an incredible one, considering the amount of recognicements and awards "Tuve" received: 2B starter at the All-Star game, MLB-leading .346 batting average, an AL-leading 204 hits and MLB-leading WAR (8.3). Also he was awarded with the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, the Babe Ruth Award (along with pitcher Justin Verlander), the Hank Aaron Award, the Sporting News Major League Player of the Year, Baseball America's Major League Player of the Year award, the Players Choice Award (Major League Player of the Year and the AL Outstanding Player), the Silver Slugger Award at 2B, the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Award, the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year, and finally the AL Most Valuable Player Award. He was the second Astro to win the award, following Jeff Bagwell in 1994.
In 9 MLB seasons (all of them playing for Houston) Jose Altuve has 1568 hits, 128 HR, 538 RBI, 254 SB and .315 AVG.
MY COMMENT:
Don't be guided by appearances.
This is a great advise, specially is you are talking about Jose Altuve.
The diminutive second baseman happens to be full of surprises. Because of his size he had to demonstrate to MLB scouts that he effectively could play baseball. And he did incredibly, not just being able to play at the highest level, but he soon became one of the best position players in The Show, with a great speed (two times AL SB leader) and a magnific hitting, earning 3 batting crowns in 4 years.
Adding more points to his amazing resume (already filled with a lot honors, leaderships and awards) Altuve developed some muscle, too: In 2019 batted 31 home runs, being he first year he got more than 24 dingers.
Considering that in 9 MLB seasons he already got 1568 hits, it is possible that he can accumulate 3000 hits by the time he decide to retire, and with such achievement be inducted in the Hall of Fame . Can he make it?
